Meta Business Manager, Suite or Portfolio Explained

Business Manager, Business Suite, Business Portfolio: Meta renamed its tools and left everyone confused. Here is what each one is and which you actually use.

If you have managed a Facebook Page, an Instagram account, or WhatsApp for a business, you have probably bumped into all three names and wondered whether they are the same thing, three different things, or you missing something. The honest answer: Meta renamed its tools and did not make the transition clear, so the confusion is real and widespread.

The quick answer: Business Manager was renamed Business Portfolio, and it is the account that holds your business assets. Meta Business Suite is the dashboard you log into to manage those assets day to day. They are related but not the same: the portfolio is the container, the Suite is the control panel.

Business Manager, now Business Portfolio

The thing once called Meta Business Manager is now called Meta Business Portfolio. Same core idea, new name. It is the account that owns your business assets: your Facebook Page, Instagram account, ad accounts, WhatsApp Business Account, and the people who have access.

You will still see "Business Manager" in older help articles, third-party guides, and even some corners of Meta's own screens, because renames take a long time to reach everywhere. When you see it, mentally swap in "Business Portfolio." It is the same layer.

Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite is the interface, the dashboard you actually log into (on the web or as an app) to run your day-to-day: see messages from Facebook and Instagram, schedule posts, view insights, and jump into settings.

Here is the relationship that clears it up: your Business Portfolio is what you own; Meta Business Suite is where you go to manage it. One is the container, the other is the control room. Inside the Suite there is a settings area (you may see it called Business Settings) where the portfolio-level controls live, including your WhatsApp accounts.

What about "Meta Business Account"?

You will sometimes see "Meta Business Account" used loosely, usually meaning the same thing as the portfolio. It is not a separate fourth product to worry about. When in doubt, assume people mean the portfolio (the container that holds your assets).

Why Meta keeps renaming things

Two reasons, mostly. First, branding: Facebook became Meta, and the company has been pulling its business tools under one consistent "Meta" name over time. Second, structure: "Portfolio" better describes what the thing actually is (a collection of business assets and access) than "Manager" did. Useful in theory, confusing in the months while old and new names coexist.

What you actually click

For most small businesses the practical flow is simple. You log into Meta Business Suite. You open Business Settings to reach portfolio-level controls. Your WhatsApp Business Account lives in there, under your portfolio. If a provider runs your WhatsApp, you may rarely visit these screens at all, which is the point.
